Joe Schuld is a graduate of Central Michigan University. In 1980, he was an intern for CBS News during the Democratic and Republican Conventions. After graduating from college, he was a sports and news reporter and sportscaster in Michigan and Texas for five years. In 1986, he met the crossroads and became a Sound Warehouse store manager in Houston. Months later, he was an account service representative for CBS Records in Houston. By the summer of 1987, Columbia Records moved him to Denver as a radio promotion manager, then to Kansas City in 1989.

During that time, he promoted radio on artists such as the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Santana, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, Billy Joel and the Psychedelic Furs, while helping to develop the careers of Midnight Oil, Jeff Buckley, Alice In Chains, Soul Asylum, Train, Shawn Colvin, Darden Smith, Roseanne Cash, Rodney Crowell, Terence Trent D’Arby, New Kids On The Block, Warrant, Mariah Carey, Michael Bolton, and many others. He was particularly instrumental in the development of Toad The Wet Sprocket.

In the summer of 2000, he started Joe’s Music Management, Marketing & Promotion with LUCE as is first management client and Columbia Records as his first promotion client. In 2003, Saddle Creek became a client, as he developed the first commercial airplay for lauded indie artists Cursive, Bright Eyes, The Faint, Azure Ray and Rilo Kiley.

In the summer of 2005, Columbia Records asked him to temporarily manage the promotion of their Triple A artists for the rest of the year. He nurtured the development of Aqualung and got Trey Anastasio on more stations than any other artist at that time, while introducing new music from the John Mayer Trio and Train. He then went back to Columbia as a regional promotion manager at the start of 2006.

By the fall of 2006, however, he was back to working with independent artists at the Sanctuary Records Group. In that time, he has helped to establish Hellogoodbye and is now working on new albums from Dolores O’Riordan, The Ataris, Idlewild and Tegan & Sara.
